There is a magazine on the floor next to my wife’s “bureau”. It is opened to a page with a picture of George Clooney. When I look at myself in the mirror, I have no resemblance to him.

Dream versus reality?

Maybe it is the same with Europe. There is the reality of Europe, and there is the dream. Except, perhaps, we take Europe for granted and imagine a different Europe when in actual fact, the reality is pretty good. We do not see it any more.

So, perhaps it is a good idea for you to be the mirror and tell us about the Europe we have forgotten.

Let us start by defining Europe. Geographically. Socially. Politically. Economically.

Both of you have travelled to Europe. When were you here? Where did you go? What did you do? What did you see? What did you experience? What impressions did you take back to Brazil with you?

Both of you have travelled to other countries. Can you compare them with Europe in any way? If so, how. If not, why not?

How do the Brazilian media treat Europe? What do you read about Europe in the papers or watch on television?

What do you like about Europe? What is your relationship with Portugal? Is it different to the rest of Europe? What is Europe for you?

Brazil and Europe are different. What can the two regions learn from each other?
