Hello

Dear reader,

I hope this newsletter finds you well.

Over here, in Northern Europe, while technically still summer, the weather has become autumnal. In fact, we even briefly switched on the heating at home / in the office on Sunday, so unfamiliar we had become with "normal" temperatures.

All this has invigorated the conversations we are sharing in Brida. I have to say, after the lull in August, it is good to be back in the discussion seat and share, discover and learn about what goes on in different corners of the world.

From engineering to shopping to cryptic messages, I want to thank you, and all others in the community, for sharing, contributing and helping others improve their communication skills in English.

This is what we are all currently discussing, and so, as we start a new week, I look forward to another week of conversations with you.

Best regards
Frank

Our themes in Brida this week:

Engineering for Beginners.

Engineering-Cover
Maxime has started university in Laval and is on the path to becoming an Engineer. We will accompany him as he shares nuggets of fascinating knowledge, that we as children might have not understood. Now, we can catch up as Maxime fills the gaps in our brains.

Hello everyone, I want to speak about mathematics. Mathematics is the base for physics, mechanics and engineering. I have a story to share :

Hidden Messages continued.

Hidden Message
We continue our series of hidden messages with new ones from Bernard, Clarisse and Ismar. For example:

We visited a castle and saw many ghosts from 200 years ago. We entered a room, and I imagined a long table. At the end were a King and other members of his court. And the King spoke, “Bernard, come to me!”. And the dignitaries said, “Oh, this is Bernard?”. Everybody said, “Bernard, come to us.”
Was it a dream? When we departed two days later, we left our hearts there. Where were we?
There are several tasks here: to ask questions, motivate the person to tell more and of course, to start your own "hidden message".

The Ambassador Project.

01 Manaus Name
Lisa has created a series of presentations about her home city, Manaus in Northern Brazil. We start this week with the name of Manaus itself and some of the things we can see and do in this unusual city in the middle of nowhere.

When men go shopping.

IMG_20220913_121926
When I went shopping in my local supermarket last week, I saw this sign displaying the price of mangos.
I wanted to know how much mangos cost in Brazil and how a farmer there could still make a profit if prices of mangos are comparatively cheap here in Europe.

In the Tuesday Get-Together, Sebastian, Ismar and Lisa and I also talked about how food can help us keep warm in winter and cool in summer. It is another way to reduce our energy bills.

Last Friday, Ismar and I, in the Atlantic Corridor, had another short conversation about buying fruit.
