Hello

Dear reader,

I hope you are well.

Does it happen to you as well?
When technology or simple things completely confuse you? This week, I had two such issues to fight: this newsletter and the change from summer to winter time here in Europe.

The first confusion is our time change. I usually know the time in other countries, but for some reason, Brazil has me in its confusing grip. This country has 3 time zones, and community members are in all three. But then I remember Ismar saying, "Brazil is not for amateurs." The time change has also affected two Get Togethers": The Atlantic Corridor and the Sundowner. I will set them up again as soon as I can.

The second problem is happening everywhere. Instead of increasing prices, companies are changing their products. You pay the same but get less. It happened with this newsletter programme. That is why you got last week's newsletter twice. My apologies.

We welcome Rosi (pronounced Rosiii) to the community. More I cannot say at this stage because she has yet to make her debut introduction. That will happen on Tuesday.

I have launched a new product for the community. Some meetings can be converted into podcasts. The first two are in the new section.

One is a discussion between Igor and myself about an entrepreneur in New York. It is business English at the highest level.
What do you think happens when 3 men meet in a virtual hotel bar? What, if at all, would they talk about? The result surprised me. Sebastian, Igor and Ismar spent an hour discussing alcohol and drinking culture. I reduced it to a 37-minute podcast. It is the one which starts with Ismar saying, "Excuse me, waiter,...."
Guess who the waiter is?

Clarisse, Monique and Bernard will be back in November. All three were away on various little adventures, which is why some discussions haven't progressed (the grape harvest in particular). You may have noticed Nathalie filling the columns with her Seoul stories, and Cléa has now entered the discussion. Thank you to both of them for doing this. It makes for fascinating reading.

We wish Lisa in Manaus a get well quickly. She has been struck down by Covid.

Martin in Kassel is preparing a new discussion topic for November. Manfred should get some valuable advice about his summer holiday plans too. But both of them wrote the "Welcome" column for the October issue of "Situations", which should also come out next week. A huge thank you to both of them for doing that.

It doesn't get boring in Brida, does it?

Julia and Igor are launching a major discussion on mental health. The rest of the topics we had last week simply continue this week.

Best regards

Frank

Winter Wonderland

winter
Spring has sprung for Ismar in Campo Grande in Southwestern Brazil. This leaves Ismar wondering what European autumns and winters are like. What do we do? For those in Germany, how would you describe Neuer Wein & Zwiebelkuchen, The Christmas Markets and mulled wine? Plus, whatever else we do here. Let’s send a little winter magic across the Atlantic.

Cheers!

This year's grape harvest is finished, and the 2022 vintage in France will be a very good one. Monique and Bernard helped in the proceedings. What else would you like to know about the wines in our region?

Where to go and what to do.

Manfred is still looking for holiday tips in Normandy and or Brittany. Even if you have never been, what advice can you give?
