Hello

Dear reader,

Take a topic, play with it, and then see what happens.

Data, facts, and figures offer no value until you can use them. Then they become information. However, information is useless unless you can apply it somewhere.
So why learn anything as an adult?

Learning a language is often seen as a tool. I need to do something with a foreigner. I need to speak English. And for many, that is perfectly correct. I see it differently.

It pays to listen very closely.

When I edited the podcast with Cléa and Maxime, both described why languages were necessary for their global futures. It provides the ability to communicate and exchange ideas.

Igor and I also worked on a series of podcasts about how he found a new job. In total, we talked for over 4 hours on this subject. And if anything, it provides an alternative process for people like Cléa and Maxime. Will your LinkedIn profile replace your CV? And, instead of a 90-Minute interview, maybe a 2-week project, paid, to test your abilities? Why not?

Current events force us to rethink many things. Ismar challenges us with our life priorities.

Nathalie commented on restaurant culture in South Korea. I decided to flip it on its head and say, explain to a South Korean, European restaurant culture. But why describe something so ordinary? It is easy to forget how strange a European might view Korean restaurant culture. It is easier to fall into another trap because we think our normality is boring. Until, as Nathalie told us, Koreans asked her why French people are so obsessed with food. Clarisse and Bernard & Monique provided the answer. One is health and bingo, and we are back to Ismar’s topic.

And we do not have to travel so far because Manfred and Walter in Germany were surprised by a few new things when comparing restaurant culture in their neighbouring country.

Maxime will publish his St. Malo presentation next week. What he talks about from his perspective will it be enough to satisfy the curiosity of those who asked him to prepare this presentation? We will see.

Speaking of different, Friday evening, I had a delicious meal. Guy cooked a Vol-au-Vent. See the picture below. But there was a twist. Instead of it being filled with veal, it was filled with tuna, onions, oregano and mint. If you want the recipe, ask him. I, for one, can certainly recommend it.

All these little things, which make up the tapestry of our lives, are discussed here in Brida and in English.

Best regards
Frank

PS. Just a brief reminder. The Brida Journal is back. And it is in a new format.

Materialism?

rich
What is important to us, a materialistic lifestyle or something else? Ismar is provoking us.

K-Pop

BTS
What we see is a bunch of young people jumping energetically around and singing modern music. What we learn over time is that there is much more than meets the eye. Cléa can lift the veil a little.

Pastries

pastry
A pastry is just a pastry, right?
No, it's that small special delight in the morning which sets the tone for the rest of the day. Nathalie is curious.

A project in a São Paulo school.

Skyline of Sao Paulo at night, Brazil
São Paulo is an enormous city. You have to learn how to use it. Rosii and her colleagues created a project to teach exactly that to their classes.

Houston, we have a problem.

space
There is no place like it. Space, that hostile environment that surrounds our planet. Maxime asks, should we venture out again? The first comments have been surprising. What do you think?
