Hello

Dear reader,

Wow, what a week!

I thought I would never say this, but I am going to.

Here is living proof:

Igor sent me a WhatsApp after the Tuesday Get Together. “ By the way, I loved the metric you created to measure my improvement, haha”.

And to just make the point a little clearer, listen to what he said as he hosted the Tuesday Get Together. Click Here

What is the point I am making?

Could some of you speak more slowly, please?

In the series of podcasts, I am making with some members of the Brida Community, one thing has become clear. The quicker you speak, the more mistakes happen, and the more I have to work on editing out these mistakes. I set Igor a goal to reduce the time I need for editing by 50%.

How?
Easy, speak more slowly!
How does that improve your English?
You have to think about different or better words.
How does that help others?
They will understand you and provide feedback, which is so important.

How many times have I heard the complaint, native speakers speak too quickly? Proficient non-native speakers do the same. But they also speak with an accent. Understanding a non-native speaker is just as difficult as understanding a native speaker.

So, my message to all, speak more slowly. It will be better in the long run.

You really should have a look at Martin’s discussion topic “Old versus new”. It could be the best discussion we have had since this platform started. Some of you are even contributing outside our classes. A big thank you to you for doing this.

Clarisse had the idea for some of the local community members here to meet up at the Christmas Market for some crêpes and mulled wine (not necessarily in that order). It’s an encouraging idea, which we will certainly organise.

So, to all of you, thanks for a wonderful week. Enjoy the next one.

Best regards

Frank

Mary on Tour

Mary 01
My wife, Mary, is on a five-week business trip. After a two-year pandemic-induced break, she does what she loves doing, inspecting hotels. The only major trip she is doing this year takes her to Mozambique, Tanzania, Mexico and the Dominican Republic before returning on Dec 23. This first leg is spent in England, tying up loose ends and spending time with her family.
Shall we accompany her?
