What a Public Table is

A Public Table is a hosted conversation.

A small group of people sit down together online for one hour and talk — never more than six participants, with two hosts present throughout. People may not know each other yet. They may come from different places, backgrounds, or stages of life.

English is simply the language everyone shares. It is deliberately not taught, tested, or improved.

There is no lesson and no agenda. The conversation is deliberately hosted through experience so it can stay calm, balanced, and unforced.

You come for the conversation.

A place you can come to once — or return to

Public Tables take place at different times of the day and on different days of the week. The structure stays familiar. The people around the table change.

Some people come once, out of curiosity. Others return, because the atmosphere suits them and the hour feels well held.

You can see what conversations are coming up, and you can also see quiet traces of past conversations in The Pineapple. This is not a one-off event — it’s a place that is already in use.

How the hour unfolds

Opening (about 5 minutes)

Frank (based in France) and Janita (based in South Africa) welcome everyone, explain how the table is held, and set the time boundary.

The table (about 45 minutes)

Everyone has space to speak. Listening matters as much as talking.

  • People speak from their own experience — not to impress, convince, or perform.
  • There is no correcting, advising, or teaching.
  • The conversation belongs to the group for this hour.

Closing (about 10 minutes)

The hour ends cleanly. There is no summary and no follow-up task. The table closes. The value is the shared hour itself.

Note On smaller screens, these sections naturally stack — menu first, then the details.
