I have a great memory from my childhood. I think back to simple moments, without stress, without the internet, without a mobile phone… There was more sincerity, mutual help, simple joys and pleasures.
We did a lot of outdoor activities like playing football, catch tadpoles in ditches, play doctor with the girlfriends… The only goal set by my parents was to succeed at school.
We were not in the virtual world. That was the REAL LIFE! It was also a period where I spent a lot of time with my grandparents.
My grandfather had a carpentry company and we did a lot of things together. My grandmother was in charge of accounting. There was a lot of atmosphere when I went there because each of them liked to have the last word… My grandparents from Schleithal had a farm with horses, cows, rabbits, chickens and pigs.
I remember the good dishes my grandmother prepared for us: the Alsatian specialities and the homemade butter she made from fresh cow milk.
Last but not least: The famous Kesselfleisch* which brought the whole family together in a (very) friendly atmosphere… It was a nice time!
