Home Staging

Setting the scene for house and flat

What to do with a property that cannot be sold because of its aged condition or other problems?

The magic word is home staging!  It’s what we real estate agents do.

We professionally prepare your home to promote its sale. Everybody in the game wants to sell quickly, buy without a fuss and let’s be honest here, we want the commission.

It also debunks the myth about why one should use an estate agent when all he does is connect people to swap a set of keys.

The ads sound tempting: Exclusive, cosy flat for sale in the best location. Then you look at the pictures, and you say what?  Either the premises are poorly photographed, or the rooms are untidy. That is just the harmless stuff. If the property has been uninhabited for a while, it can show. It can become a problem. Or, you have to admit, that lovely pink sofa in the wrong corner might be to your taste, but certainly not to that of the next owner.

We do home staging to make your house as attractive as possible for prospective buyers. I often advise a fresh coat of paint and new flooring. After that, we play with light, art, and the interiors. Your property is lifted to a new level to appeal to the largest possible target group.

Surprisingly, the idea is relatively new. It began in the US back in the 1980s. At Property John, we concentrate on several broad concepts. Where possible, we change from dark to light. A spot of colour, tastefully done, will bring more joy. Getting a feel for the property is also important. A skilful combination of retro and modern might do wonders. And, the old adage, less is more. Less clutter lets the imagination roam.

If you allow me a tiny bit of self-promotion here, I have done several home staging courses, back home, in the US. So, if you’re thinking of selling, speak with us.

I can show you previous projects, and we can explore what is best for your home. We’ll be upfront with you and tell you how much it will cost and how long the house was on the market compared to other properties which didn’t get home staged.

We’d love to hear from you.
